Hi!
Several months ago, my dad asked me to do a rescue
task, transform a bunch of 8mm tapes from a handycam into a digital format. That's
what I've been doing since the start of the strike, better known as “paro”.
As I said before, in another blog, I don't get along
very well with technology, so at the beginning it was pretty difficult for me
and I didn't know if what I was doing was right.
The process for change the format from a tape to
digital is slooow and I had a lot of problems, first I was missing a very
important cable, then I couldn't install a program that allowed me to do the
format change and finally, one of the tapes got stuck in the machine, I just
wanted to cry… so I cried…and then I asked for help.
When all the problems were resolved I started the
transformation, and that happened in real time, so if one of the tapes has 2
hours of recordings, the transformations take 2 hours. Many of the tapes were
recorded months apart, so I have to be really focused to make cuts and keep a
chronological order.
During this rescue process, I've seen recordings from
18 years ago or even more, I've been able to see my older brother when was a
kid and a younger version of my parents and grandparents.
Has really been a time travel full of emotions, a very
demanding process but very nice too.
